Lighten Up Y’all by Virginia Willis

Lighten Up, Y'all by Virginia Willis

Virginia Willis is one of my favorite cooks. She specializes in Southern cooking but her take on it is different than the normal Paula Deen throw on some canned cream of mushroom soup. She treats food well. This cookbook version is a lighter version of some southern staples. She doesn’t resort to using “fake substitutes” though and I love her for it.

Not really “diet food” her book is just made over lighter recipes. That people will actually want to eat. There wasn’t a picture included of her squash lasagna that I’m dying to make but I’ll live. Maybe.

This is What you just put in your mouth? By Patrick Di Justo

This Is What You Just Put in Your Mouth? by Patrick Di Justo

Ever wonder what’s in your food?
I have. I’m an inquiring mind. Or maybe I just like having random tidbits in my head to gross out my friends while they are eating.

This book will ruin most of your favorite food like items forever.
For instance: Did you know that chocolate cordial cherries have a chemical that starts digesting your food before you even eat it?
I bet Lucy didn’t know that.

A bunch of this I already know because I tend to obsess about things and I read about 50 food books in the last two years in order to freak myself out about everything I eat. Sometimes the healthy stuff just doesn’t taste good though. Bring on the chemicals!

There is a story about Cheeseburger flavored Doritos in this book that kinda freaked even me out. Luckily, I never ate those.

There’s even a segment on what’s in Alpo. So you can gross your dog out while he is eating it. After you pry the cat turd from his mouth so you can feed him said dog food.

And finally! Guess what is the most healthiest thing you put in your mouth chemical wise in this book?!
Beer. See I always knew beer could do no wrong.

If you like knowing what you are eating. Or just like random facts, pick up this little book. It does not have this though.

It should have had that.

Your Family in Pictures by Me Ra Koh

Your Family in Pictures by Me Ra Koh

I love taking pictures. Most people do. Well..mostly selfies to embarrass my children with.
Example in point: My hubby and I doing the duckface for Facebook. Yes, to embarrass the children.

I even have one of those expensive cameras..that I have really no clue on how to use. Those settings? Yeah, I just ignore those and use the “auto” option.
So I thought this book might help with that. It really doesn’t but I still really enjoyed it.
The book give some really great examples on how to set up shots. Like my crew is going to go for that..but I can dream. I never thought about using some of the ideas she has in the book. Like taking pics while they are video gaming zombies. I just got one of my son that may be one of my favorites of him.
Zoey did pose for 2 seconds for me.

Plus I like taking pics of random stuff along with pics of the family.

I would post some pics I took of the fam. after reading this book….but TROLLS. So I can’t.
The author doesn’t talk down to you even if you mostly use your phone for pics either. I like that. 🙂

I still don’t know what the hell those settings on my camera are though.
